Why are those restrictions imposed? They serve no purpose other than to make MS and it's partners more money. But we all figured out a legal way around that and they decided it wasn't worth the hassle. Heck, with XP they even tried to prevent you from upgrading hardware too much, or at least discourage you. All it does is force you to buy a license when a physical computer has to be replaced. If the OS cost was the same across the board and you could use the OS on any system you wanted, people would still buy it. This model, paying more to get more, is well used in the software industry. In this case the 'feature' is the legal ability to install on another PC. I think of it like a program that comes with some features, but if you pay more you get more features. You can do more with that license so it costs more. A retail license allows you to install the OS on a PC, remove it, then install it on another. The OEM license allows you to use the OS on the PC it came on. Your license allows you to do certain things. You are buying a license, not the actual code. It isn't like tires, because tires are a physical item. I keep within their rules but the rules are very odd.I don't think support has anything to do with it. And this is just the start of the convoluted MS licensing system. Why should MS care if an OEM that they will not help you with is on another system? Its like moving tires on your own from one car to another. Microsoft has answered the OEM install With Retail or "Generic" install media. The digital certificates Won't match and no matter what key you manually enter it won't activate. Also you can not use another manufactures "OEM" branded install disc on another machine. I won't post the instructions on how to Modify your Bios or where to find the digital certificates although legal if done properly its a touchy subject. I studied OEM licensing and Bios architecture for a few months to learn the process. That being said you can rebuild your OEM install media or create them for ANY manufacture. Each manufacture has their own digital certificate that is stored in the "OEM" folder on the installation media. The OEM license is VLK that is Activated by the Bios SLIC 2.1 key. Enter your product Key from COA key on the outside of the case and Activate Windows. Download Windows 7 Pro X86 from Microsoft Digital River
